The project is the creation of a revolutionary mobile application, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for early- to mid-stage dementia patients, that can assist in everyday cognitive tasks, problems, and social interactions.
Having entered the patient’s name, place of birth, daily schedule, and relatives’ names, the app offers several options that allow users to stay oriented and recall their past. In addition to its storage function, the app can support journaling for the patient where they are presented with the opportunity to write something every day, thus exercising the patient’s routine thought process.
Users can engage in a daily quiz filled with interactive questions tailored to their life, journal entries, and profile details.
Daily within the app, the patient is encouraged to keep a diary in which he/she records his/her activities of the day.
The app integrates self-scheduling to encourage patients to take their quizzes, and follow their daily medication.
The application has a text to speech option where patients can dictate their journals on how they feel.
The mobile application also has features like the performance analyzer, which is an algorithm that measures the patients’ mental capabilities over time.

The other challenge of creating an algorithm for calculating and tracking patient’s cognitive capabilities was in defining the effects of dementia on different types of cognition.

Whether it is for giving support or offering feedback, it was paramount to ensure that the chatbot could comprehend the kind of emotions the patients had.
SOLUTIONS
The team used a machine learning model that permits the quantitative evaluation of test scores and daily journal entries to come up with an overall measure of cognitive ability through time.
Using the NLP features of GPT-4, the team designed the chatbot, which would be able to comprehend emotion-related signals from patient interactions. The chatbot is not only kind but also enables the caregivers to receive emotional data relating to the patient to improve care plans.

This app was created using PostgreSQL – a fast and effective relational database management system considered one of the most powerful. This helps in ensuring that the app can handle large volumes of data and at the same time can process this data, without having to compromise on the quality of the data.
The app is also equipped with reminders and notifications, designed to help patients fill oult their journals daily. Plans are made in such a way that patients will be reminded gently but adequately so that they can keep a check on their routine without stressing themselves or getting frustrated.
A great synergy for developing cross-platform mobile applications that the applications themselves may provide a good and sleek UX/UI across iOS and Android.
A high-performance web framework used to build the app’s backend; it allows for the creation of APIs at a high speed which are necessary for the organization of data.
